3 Ways to Make Your Financial Presentations More Engaging
Financial presentations can be dense. To captivate your audience and build greater engagement, it’s crucial to maintain focus. Here are three great strategies to minimize distractions and connect more effectively.
Sync Visual and Verbal Content
- Avoid showing visual content in a slide or shared screen while making a significant verbal point. Research shows that a person’s brain can only focus on one thing at a time.
- Corresponding visual aids should compliment and reinforce your message, not compete for attention with your voice.
- Time slides to coincide with what you’re saying for a synchronized narrative.
Utilize Screen Control Tactics
- A subtle trick you can use is placing black slides into your presentation. The ‘blackout’ technique shifts the focus away from the slide and onto you. I use this technique when I want to connect more directly or emotionally with my audience.
- In virtual presentations, consider turning off your screen sharing when it’s time to be more emotionally connected, make a key point, be more vulnerable, or telling a story. I have a hotkey on my Stream Deck that allows this to be done in an instant.
Less is More. Simplify the Slides
- Limit the content on each slide to one key point. While there may be multiple elements of support on the slide, this conciseness helps your audience retain information more efficiently.
- Avoid packing lots of text into the slides. Use bullet points, simple graphs, and clear infographics to convey complex financial data in a simple, digestible format.
- Prioritize clarity over quantity. A few well-crafted slides can communicate more effectively than dozens of cluttered ones.
By incorporating these three tactics, you can transform your financial presentations from tedious to comprehensible and overwhelming to engaging.
